Pakistan reports 105 deaths and 5,139 new coronavirus cases in a day.
This is the third day in a row the country has reported more than 5,000 cases.
According to the latest statistics of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), the total count of active cases was recorded at 73,078 and the positivity rate stood at 10.47 percent.
As per the latest statistics 88 patients were declared critical, adding to the total number of patients suffering from sensitive health conditions up to 4,204.
Region-wise breakdown of deaths and cases recorded is as following:
A day earlier the National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) issued new guidelines for administering coronavirus vaccines across Pakistan.
As per the new guidelines, people above the age of 65 can now visit any vaccination centre and get themselves inoculated, provided they carry their computerized national identity cards (CNICs) with them.
Pakistan has kick-started its vaccination drive, with government and private hospitals working to vaccinate the masses.
Federal Minister Asad Umar earlier in the week announced that the final phase of the ongoing vaccination campaign against coronavirus would be initiated after Eidul Fitr, covering people of every age group.
Umar, also the head of NCOC, told a select group of senior journalists that China was Pakistan’s primary source for vaccination for now and expressed the hope that after Eid the country would have the capacity to administer 125,000 vaccine shots per day.
“Covid-19 vaccination registration will be open to all citizens after Eid,” Umar said.
“We began a phase-wise approach in the beginning [and are expanding it now],” he added.
“Vaccinating the population has always been a priority.”
