Pakistan Reports First Mpox Case of 2025: Traveler from Dubai Tests Positive
KP province has reported 10 mpox cases over the last three years

Pakistan has reported its first case of mpox (formerly known as monkeypox) for 2025.
The patient, who returned from Dubai on January 24, was identified during health screenings at Peshawar airport.
Following the diagnosis, the individual was admitted to Services Hospital in Peshawar for treatment.
According to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Adviser Ihtisham Ali, the Public Health Reference Lab had confirmed the detection of the mpox virus and shifted the patient to Police Services Hospital.
This case marks the total number of mpox cases in Pakistan at ten since the declaration of a health emergency regarding the virus.
Health officials are concerned about the potential spread of mpox, particularly due to the patient’s travel history linked to Gulf nations.
The Ministry of Health has emphasized that effective measures are being implemented to protect public health and monitor any further cases stemming from international travel.
It is pertinent to mention here that KP province has reported 10 mpox cases over the last three years, including two in 2023, seven in 2024
