Pakistan reports more than 3,000 COVID-19 cases for the straight second day

COVID-19 cases In Pakistan today:

Pakistan has reported more than 3,000 coronavirus cases for a second day straight.

According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), 3,449 new infection cases and 40 more deaths were reported in the past 24 hours.

While the country’s coronavirus positivity rate has surged past eight percent. 

As per the NCOC, 42,845 tests were conducted across the country during this period while 9,691,087 samples have been tested thus far.

At least 2,064 people admitted to different hospitals are in critical condition.

Region-wise breakdown of coronavirus cases and deaths is as follows:

  • Punjab: 1,868 cases, 23 deaths
  • Islamabad: 620 cases, 5 deaths
  • Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: 529 cases, 8 death
  • Sindh: 296 cases, 4 deaths
  • Azad Jammu and Kashmir: 113 cases
  • Balochistan: 21 cases
  • Gilgit-Baltistan: 2 cases

 

The latest figures show that the federal capital, Islamabad has more active coronavirus cases than all of KP – and slightly lesser than of Sindh.

With the new deaths reported countrywide fatality toll has surged to 13,757 and the total number of Pakistan’s coronavirus cases is now  619,259.

Furthermore, Pakistan reported 813 coronavirus recoveries during the last 24 hours, according to the government’s portal for tracking the spread of the disease in the country.

The total has risen to 578,314 while the recovery rate is 93.4 percent.

The number of active COVID-19 cases in the country is 27,188.

With smart lockdown in different cities owing to an increase in COVID cases, Federal Minister for Planning and Development and National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) head Asad Umar has expressed concern over rising coronavirus cases,.

According to the federal minister, the government might impose another lockdown in parts of the country if there is a continued increase in coronavirus cases.

He also added that the third wave of coronavirus has started in Pakistan and lockdown can be imposed in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) to curb the spread of coronavirus.

Asad Umar added that the COVID-19 tests positivity ratio in the country is increasing which is alarming.

A day earlier, Pakistan reported 3,495 cases, the current year’s highest number of cases in a single day, and 61 deaths were recorded.
