Pakistan reports over 2,000 COVID-19 cases for the first time since Jan 29

Pakistan reports over 2,000 Covid-19 cases for the first time since January 29. The surge in the ratio of positive cases is alarming.

The recent data suggests Pakistan seems to be heading towards a third wave of the virus.

In the last 24 hours, the rate of positive cases of coronavirus has been 5.36% and 53 more corona deaths were reported.

According to the National Command and Control Center (NCOC), 2,258 more cases of coronavirus have been reported in Pakistan in the last 24 hours, with another 53 deaths. 1,277 patients were cured of this disease.

Breakdown of  region cases reported during the last 24 hours as following:

  • Punjab: 1,290 cases
  • Islamabad: 350 cases
  • KP: 289 cases
  • Sindh: 256 cases
  • AJK: 57 cases
  • Balochistan: 16 cases


The total number of deaths from the coronavirus across the country has reached 13,377, while the total number of patients has reached 597,497.

A further 42,164 tests for the coronavirus were performed in 24 hours, while a total of 9,360,202 corona tests have been performed so far.

According to the NCOC, a total of 17,628 COVID-19 patients are being treated in hospitals, quarantine centers, and homes across the country, of whom 1,688 are in critical condition, while 566,493 have been recovered so far.

Sindh:

The number of coronavirus patients in Sindh has risen to 260,406 more than in other provinces, while the total deaths have risen to 4,448.

Punjab:

Punjab has reported 1,290 coronavirus cases and 33 deaths during the past 24 hours.

This is the second straight day the province has reported more than 1,000 coronavirus cases.

A day earlier, Punjab reported 1,006 cases and 29 deaths

In Punjab, 180,944 cases of coronavirus have been reported so far, while the total number of deaths here is higher than in other provinces which has reached 5,662.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa:

KP has reported 289 coronavirus cases and seven deaths.

The provincial total has risen to 74,722 and the death toll is 2,129.

Balochistan:

Meanwhile, Balochistan recorded 16 new cases, taking the tally to 19,157. The death toll remains 202.

Islamabad, federal territories:

  • Islamabad: 350 cases, 4 deaths
  • AJK: 57 cases, 2 deaths
  • GB: 1 death
