Pakistan vaccinates more one lakh people in a day

Pakistan for the first time has vaccinated more than 100000 people in a day!

The update was shared by the Federal Minister for planning and NCOC chief Asad Umar on Wednesday.

In a tweet, he said, “Daily vaccinations crossed 1 lakh in a day for the first time yesterday. Total vaccinations yesterday were 117,852. Total vaccinations so far now 2.1 million.”

“Good to see more people registering. Please encourage all those 40 and above to register, if they have not done so far,” he further added.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has also started a walk-in vaccination program for people of age 50 and above across the country.

In a Wednesday tweet, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Health, Dr. Faisal Sultan said that people of this age group can visit any nearby vaccination center with their national identity cards and mobile phones to get the vaccine jab.

“Starting today, those over the age of 50 years can get vaccinated at any nearby vaccine center. Please take along your CNIC and  phone and get your vaccine.”

He also added that registration for people between 40 and 50 years of age is underway countrywide.

People can register for vaccination by sending their CNIC numbers on 1166 via SMS and waiting for instructions.

On the other hand, Pakistan has reported 201 coronavirus deaths during the last 24 hours, the highest single-day death toll since the pandemic started.

Previously, the highest number of deaths were reported on April 24, when 157 people had lost their battle against the deadly virus in a single day.

During the last 24 hours, Punjab reported the highest number of fatalities at 127, followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with 45. The national positivity rate is 10.77 percent.

Region-wise breakdown of COVID-19 reported cases and deaths is as follows:

  • Punjab: 2,676 cases, 127 deaths
  • Sindh: 1,084 cases, 19 deaths
  • Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: 935 cases, 45 deaths
  • Islamabad: 327 cases, 5 deaths
  • Balochistan: 142 cases, 1 death
  • Azad Jammu and Kashmir: 120 cases, 4 deaths
  • Gilgit-Baltistan: 8 cases
