Pakistani-American Doctor Couple Postpones Honeymoon to Serve Humanity

Coronavirus has brought the world to a strange place and as more than half of the world remains isolated, some are out and about to fight against the deadly pandemic. Frontline soldiers are the doctors across the globe who have put their personal lives on a halt to serve the true purpose of humanity.

One such doctor couple is Kashif Chaudhry and Naila Shereen who are both doctors by profession and currently serve at Cedar Rapids, Iowa and SUNY Downstate Medical Center in central Brooklyn, New York.

The two were planned to get married on March 29 in London and a lavish reception of 400+ guests was set to be hosted by their families. However as fate would have it, Coronavirus pandemic took over the world and America, and the two – seeing the circumstances – chose to get married at a local mosque and had dinner with Naila’s family afterward.

What followed after is the epitome of selflessness and goes out to show the lengths doctors go to serve humanity. Postponing their pre-planned honeymoon in Dubai and Maldives, Kashif and Naila instead headed back to their respective hospitals, 1000 miles apart.

“I wish we could be together, but it’s my professional and ethical duty to be here,” said Naila,  chief internal medicine resident at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn – one of the worst-hit regions of US.

“We are ready to do our part to save as many lives as we can. The worst isn’t even here yet,” said her 37-year old husband who works at Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

The couple with their dedication and love to each other defied all odds not only in terms of their love life but by prioritizing their duty towards humanity wrote a tale of heroics that doctors currently are writing with their blood and sweat.
