Eminent transgender activist and political worker, Nayyab Ali was recently honoured with the coveted International Activist of the Year award for her work.
Nayyab was among the four nominees of The Gala Awards which highlights the work of LGBTQ+ activists.
The nominees were selected by Amnesty International, Frontline Defenders, and the International LGBT Action Foundation. The other three nominees were from Brazil, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.
The ceremony was held in Dublin, Ireland. Ali, however, Nayab couldn’t attend it on account of falling sick. She thanked the attendees in a video for the award.
Nayyab was one of the four transgender candidates who ran for Pakistan’s general elections in 2018 and has also been leading the advocacy efforts for the approval of Pakistan’s National Transgender Rights Protection Policy.
