Parliament Lodges Declared Sub-Jail for Arrested PTI MNAs
On Friday, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq authorized the use of Parliament Lodges as a sub-jail for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNAs currently in custody. This decision was made in response to a request from Barrister Gohar and other members, citing increased security concerns.
According to the news sources, all arrested PTI MNAs have completed the required paperwork and are likely to be transferred to the Parliament Lodges today.
This step is part of ongoing efforts to manage the security and logistical challenges related to their detention.
Additionally, Speaker Ayaz Sadiq has issued production orders for ten PTI members, ensuring their participation in the National Assembly proceedings.
The decision to designate Parliament Lodges as a sub-jail aims to allow the detained MNAs to attend the National Assembly’s 9th session, scheduled following the issuance of their production orders on September 11, 2024.
In a letter to the Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, the Secretariat indicated that the Honourable Speaker had sanctioned this arrangement in accordance with Rule 108 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007.
The production orders pertain to the following MNAs: Sher Afzal Marwat, Amir Dogar, Zain Qureshi, Sheikh Waqas Akram, Muhammad Ahmad Chattha, Zubair Khan, Owais Haider Jhakkar, Syed Shah Ahad Shah, Naseem Ali Shah, and Yousuf Khan.
These orders, issued under Rule 108, are designed to enable their participation in the current assembly session.
This development follows recent arrests, including that of PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar, Sher Afzal Marwat, and Shoaib Shaheen.
