PEMRA Imposes Rs1 Million Fine on Channel 92 for Defaming Zulfi Bukhari

In its programs on October 17 and October 18, 2019, Channel 92 had made allegations against Special Adviser to Prime Minister Syed Zulfiqar Bukhari, which have backfired now in the latest decision by PEMRA.

Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has imposed Rs1 million fine on the channel and warned its anchorperson, Dr. Danish, on the program that has been dubbed as “concocted and fabricated” by Bukhari.

The decision has come after Islamabad’s Council of Complaints (CoC), heard Bukhari’s complaint filed on October 29.

As per the decision, Channel 92 has violated “clause 22 (1) of the Electronic Media (Programmes and Advertisement) Code of Conduct, 2015, by airing false allegations against Zulfikar Bukhari in two separate programs — Jawab Chahiye and News Report — aired on October 17 and 18, 2019,” reported Dawn.

“Pemra’s decision has provided me a strong foundation to file a liable suit against Danish in Pakistan and the United Kingdom for my character assassination,” said Zulfi Bukhari while talking to Dawn.
