Peshawar BRT Project Inaugurated

Prime Minister Imran Khan has inaugurated the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Project on Thursday.

Termed as the flagship project of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government, BRT has been built at the cost of around Rs70 billion, aimed at bringing a revolution in the provincial capital’s transport system as approximately 340,000 common people will enjoy a safe, comfortable and affordable travel in luxury buses on daily basis.

Peshawar BRT is a 27.5 kilometer-long main corridor track with 31 stations, besides seven feeder routes of total 62 kilometers with 146 stops to facilitate hundreds of thousands of passengers every day.

Addressing the ceremony, Imran said that the Peshawar BRT is one of country’s best and high-level project which will benefit the people of Peshawar. “In the beginning, I had reservations on the project but I was wrong,” he said.

He added the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government has kept the ticket price low so everyone could afford it.” He mentioned the BRT will benefit low-income people and students.

“BRT will have an impact in Peshawar as the city has one main artery that stretches from GT Road to Hayatabad, which chokes when there is pressure, resulting in traffic gridlocks for hours which causes pollution and petrol wastage,” he said.
