The famous shoemaker of Peshawar, Nooruddin Shinwari, who had made snakeskin sandals for Prime Minister Imran Khan, has now got the confiscated sandals back on Monday after paying a fine of Rs 50,000.

The wildlife Department in Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa had confiscated the two pairs of snakeskin sandals Nooruddin made as an Eid gift for the premiere after conducting a raid on his shop in Jehangir Pura Bazar in interior Peshawar City on Sunday.

“I have got the chappal back after paying a fine of Rs50,000 and now I will present it to Prime Minister Imran Khan as an Eid gift,” Nooruddin said while interviewing to a news channel.

Sub Divisional Forest Officer Amir Ali said that a lab test conducted for the verification of the leather and it has been verified that sandals were made of python skin.

The shoemaker was fined for the violation of local rules and regulations and also warned of strict action taken against using the skin of wild animals in future. Nooruddin also signed an affidavit attesting that he won’t use wildlife’s animal leather again.

Earlier, Nooruddin and his son Islam told that the serpentine material had been sent from the United States to the shop for two pairs; one for the donor and one for the Kaptaan to slip on. However, no documents have been found to establish that the snakeskin was imported.
