PIA Issues Apology Over Controversial ‘Paris We’re Coming Today’ Ad

'Paris We're Coming Today' ad, featuring a plane flying toward the Eiffel Tower, drew a significant backlash

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has issued an apology following backlash over a controversial ‘Paris We’re Coming Today’ ad, featuring a plane flying toward the Eiffel Tower.

The ad was intended to celebrate the resumption of flights to Paris after a four-year safety ban was lifted, but it quickly drew criticism for its perceived insensitivity, evoking comparisons to the September 11 attacks in the United States.

The advertisement, which was posted on PIA’s official X account, included the caption “Paris, we’re coming today” alongside an image of a plane aimed at the iconic French landmark. This imagery led to significant outrage on social media, with many users expressing concern and drawing parallels to the tragic events of 2001 when planes were hijacked and flown into the Twin Towers in New York City.

PIA spokesperson Abdullah Khan acknowledged that the ad was “blown out of proportion” and stated that it might have triggered negative emotions unintentionally. He emphasized that there was no intention to offend and expressed sincere apologies for any distress caused.

The airline reported that while the ad reached approximately 30 million people and garnered around 755,000 reactions, only about 10% of those were negative, equating to roughly 60,000 to 70,000 negative comments.
