PIMS Hospital Islamabad has run out of space to admit COVID-19 patients!
Islamabad’s Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences commonly known as PIMS has “reached its maximum capacity” to admit and treat Covid-19 patients, it emerges on Friday.
Hospital’s joint executive director in a letter written to authorities briefed about the grave situation.
In a letter to the Pims dean, dated April 22, Dr. Minhaj-us-Siraj said the hospital has decided to postpone elective/planned surgeries “indefinitely” because the heavy load of Covid patients has increased oxygen pressure on the hospital “manifold”.
The facility has reached its “maximum capacity to admit and treat the COVID-19 patients and scores of COVID patients are waiting in Emergency Room occupying oxygen points,” the letter added.
He requested that the federal health ministry be approached to “ramp up” other facilities in the capital so that COVID-19 patients can be treated.
On Friday the federal capital had reported 617 coronavirus cases and 3 deaths.
