A passenger plane skidded off the runway after its landing carrying 177 people on board at Istanbul airport on Wednesday, later caught fire and broke into three pieces.
According to the details “no one had lost their lives in the incident, but dozens of people were injured,” a statement released by the offcials.
The image of skidding plane where several people climbing through a large crack in the aircraft and escaping onto one of the wings at the rear of the aircraft were also broadcast live on Turkish television.
The plane was apparently struck by strong winds and heavy rain lashing Istanbul.
According to Istanbul governor Ali Yerlikaya, 52 people were injured in the incident.
“Efforts to evacuate those affected continue,” he added
“Two pilots, a Turkish national and a South Korean, were seriously hurt,” the Turkish media reported.
The plane had total 171 passengers on board and six crew members, the governor said.
