PM Imran Khan has congratulated Dr Amjad Saqib, head of the Akhuwat Foundation, for winning the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award.

64-year-old microfinance pioneer from Pakistan has won the Ramon Magsaysay Award for his “first-of-its-kind” interest- and collateral-free microfinance programme that catalyzed scores of poor households.

Akhuwat is the world’s largest Islamic microfinance organization.

It has so far disbursed Rs.100 Billion in interest-free loans, helping 4 million families in Pakistan.

The Ramon Magsaysay Award regarded as the Nobel Prize of Asia has been named after a Filipino president killed in a plane crash, as established in 1957 to honour people and groups tackling development problems.

Prime Minister Imran Khan congratulated Dr Amjad Saqib for winning “Asia’s highest honour”.

Have been told this year’s Ramon Magsaysay Award, Asia’s highest honour, has been given to a Pakistani, Dr. Amjad Saqib, Founder Akhuwat. Congratulations to him. We are proud of his achievement as we move forward in creating a welfare state based on Riasat e Madina Model,” he said in a tweet.
