PM Shehbaz Sharif Vows Economic Strength, National Unity on Youm-e-Takbeer

He paid tribute to the pioneers of Pakistan’s nuclear program, including Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan, the scientific community, and the armed forces.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif hailed the nation’s nuclear journey as a symbol of resilience and sovereignty, urging the people to channel the same spirit towards economic empowerment, as Pakistan commemorated the 27th anniversary of Youm-e-Takbeer on Wednesday.

In his message to the nation, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude to Allah and congratulated the people of Pakistan. “Today on Youm-e-Takbeer, I thank Allah Almighty and wholeheartedly congratulate the entire nation and all patriotic Pakistanis,” he said.

Highlighting the significance of May 28, 1998—when Pakistan emerged as the seventh nuclear power in the world and the first in the Muslim world—PM Shehbaz underscored that Youm-e-Takbeer is not merely a day of celebration, but a solemn reminder of the country’s unwavering resolve to protect its sovereignty.

The Prime Minister linked this year’s commemoration to Pakistan’s recent defense during the May 6–10 escalation with India, describing it as a reaffirmation of national strength. “The joys of Youm-e-Takbeer have further increased for a nation filled with victory,” he remarked.

Recalling the nuclear tests conducted under the leadership of then-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, PM Shehbaz noted that responding with six nuclear tests to India’s five was a historic act of defiance in the face of immense international pressure. “Mr. Nawaz Sharif represented the aspirations and national interests of the entire nation… and made our geographical borders impregnable forever,” he stated.

He paid tribute to the pioneers of Pakistan’s nuclear program, including Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan, the scientific community, and the armed forces. He also acknowledged the sacrifices and support of the Pakistani people. “I salute the nation, which made immense sacrifices for the completion of the nuclear program and wrote a proud story of its determination and faith,” the Prime Minister said.

Drawing parallels between the nuclear milestone and the formation of Pakistan, PM Shehbaz invoked the vision of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, saying, “National history is a witness that the people and political leadership of Pakistan have always made the impossible possible.”

Calling for renewed unity, the Prime Minister urged the nation to apply the spirit of Youm-e-Takbeer toward economic progress. “Youm-e-Takbeer is a day of national unity and a declaration of non-compromise on our freedom and sovereignty. Today we pledge to make Pakistan an economic power and achieve its true place in the world. Insha Allah. Long live Pakistan.”

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also shared a message on the occasion in his X-account.
