PPP serves legal notice to Imran Khan over murder allegation against Asif Zardari

Imran Khan accuses Asif Ali Zardari of plotting to assassinate him

PPP has served a legal notice to Imran Khan over the murder allegation against Asif Ali Zardari!

Following PTI chairman Imran Khan’s allegations that PPP Co-chairperson Zardari was hatching as well as financing an assassination plot against him for which the ex-president had hired “terrorists”, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) on Monday sent an Rs10 billion legal notice to Imran Khan.

The legal notice says the PTI chief’s statement caused great harm and hurt PPP members.

“The statements made by you [Khan] have caused great harm and hurt to the sentiments of the members of Pakistan Peoples Party which are not only in Pakistan but all over the world thereby damaging and defaming their reputation,” reads the notice.

The notice added that the PTI chief through his “baseless accusations” tried to create a link between Zardari and terrorist organisations “blindly disregarding the fact that our client and his party has remained the victim of terrorism”.

The notice added that the PTI chief through his “defamatory actions” caused “severe agony, mental stress and loss of reputation” to the PPP co-chairperson.

“You are, therefore, hereby called upon to render unconditional apology from our client, on television, print and social media, within 14 (fourteen) days from the receipt of this notice, failing whereof, our client shall be constrained to institute appropriate legal proceedings against you, civil as well as criminal, before the competent Courts of law and forums of Pakistan as well as of England, including but not limited to Suit for Damages for Rs.10,000,000,000/- (Rupees ten billion Only) at your risk as to cost and consequences,” it added.

PPP strongly refuted the allegations

In a joint press conference on Saturday comprising senior PPP leaders, including Nayyar Bukhari and Zardari’s spokesperson Farhatullah Babar, the party condemned what it called false allegations.

PP leaders maintained that they will take legal action against Imran.

Farhatullah Babar said that Imran seems to have lost his senses following the loss of power.

“If you have lost your senses for losing power, how is that the fault of Zardari,” he said.

During the press conference, PPP senior leader and Advisor to Prime Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Qamar Zaman Kaira wondered whether Imran had lost his sanity.

He added that whenever Imran gets in trouble politically he makes strange allegations to keep himself relevant.

However, he said that this time, the allegations were quite serious and would be met with a serious response.

Qamar Zaman Kaira also urged the Supreme Court to take notice of the false allegations leveled against a former president.

If there is evidence for the allegations and they can be proved, then those responsible should face action. But if there is no proof, then Imran should face action, Qamar Zaman Kaira added.

Bilawal’s reaction to Imran Khan’s allegations

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari — who is also the son of Asif Ali Zardari, slammed Imran Khan and said that the ex-prime minister must be careful about what he says.

Terming the accusations of the PTI chairman“dangerous,” Bilawal said that PPP was exploring legal responses to Khan’s most recent accusations.

“We are exploring legal response to Imran latest defamatory and dangerous accusations. In the past, he threatened my father that he was ‘in the crosshairs of his gun’.”

“He and his associates’ history as both sympathisers & facilitators of terrorists are well documented,” Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said.
