Liu Yifei, the Chinese-born actress who is the lead star of Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of Mulan, has voiced her support for the Hong Kong police amid the ongoing protests.
As soon as Liu Yifei’s announcement became public, people started calling for the boycott of upcoming Disney’s film Mulan which features Liu Yifei.
As being reported, Yifei posted on Weibo, a social media platform in China similar to Twitter, saying “I support the Hong Kong police. You can all attack me now. What a shame for Hong Kong”.
Though Twitter is banned in China, those who have access to it came out hitting at the actress and #BoycottMulan started to trend in the United States with over 57 thousand Tweets as of the time of writing.
People are accusing the Disney actress who is a US citizen for not realizing the ordeal Hong Kong protestors are facing.
The protests in Hong Kong started back in June over a now-suspended extradition bill. These protests have now grown into a much larger fight, leading in for many demanding the city leader Carrie Lam to step-down.
