Protests erupted nationwide on Tuesday following Imran Khan’s arrest!
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters have taken to the streets to protest in several cities, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Karachi, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Multan, Peshawar, and Mardan.
Protesters also caused damage to public property in several cities, including Rawalpindi and Lahore.
PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi in a statement said a meeting of the central leadership and members of the emergency committee formed by the party chief has been convened to mull future courses of action in view of the arrest.
The future course of action will be announced after assessing the situation, Qureshi added.
In Karachi, PTI supporters clashed with the police near the Nursery area. They threw stones at and set fire to police vehicles, tore down street lights, and damaged a bus.
There were reports that police fired teargas shells at the protesters.
In the latest developments, the authorities have imposed Section 144 in the Punjab and Balochistan provinces, and federal capital following violent protests.
Meanwhile, Punjab and the Federal capital administration also called rangers officials to assist the police to contain the situation.
Section 144 was imposed after agitated protesters stormed government buildings and blocked roads, causing traffic disruptions.
Meanwhile, reports are emerging that PTI supporters gathered outside the residence of the corps commander in Lahore.
