PTCL Announces Restoration of Internet Services After Submarine Cable Fault
PTCL confirmed that all internet services are now fully operational nationwide

Pakistan Telecommunications Limited (PTCL) announced the successful restoration of its internet services across the country following the resolution of a fault in the Asia-Africa-Europe-1 (AAE-1) submarine cable. The disruption, which began earlier in January 2025, had caused significant slowdowns and limited access for users throughout Pakistan.
In an official statement released on January 16, PTCL confirmed that all internet services are now fully operational, with improved browsing experiences for customers. The company noted that it had implemented additional bandwidth to mitigate disruptions during the outage.
The issues stemmed from a fault in the AAE-1 submarine cable, a critical infrastructure component that connects Pakistan to various international networks. In response to the challenges, PTCL worked diligently to reroute traffic through alternative cables, ensuring minimal impact on users.
PTCL expressed gratitude to its customers for their patience during this period and highlighted the collaborative efforts between PTCL and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) in addressing the connectivity issues. Following the restoration, popular platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram are now fully functional, providing relief to users who rely on these services for communication and social interaction.
This incident underscores ongoing challenges within Pakistan’s internet infrastructure, which continues to face scrutiny regarding its reliability and speed compared to global standards.
