PTI kicks off Jail Bharo Tehreek from Lahore

PTI kicks off Jail Bharo Tehreek from Lahore as the party’s senior leaders forced themselves into a prison van in the walled city.

On Wednesday, several PTI leaders, including Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Asad Umar, Umar Sarfaraz Cheema and Senator Azam Swati, offered their arrest as the party’s ‘Jail Bharo’ movement started from Lahore.

In the first phase of the movement, PTI leaders forced themselves into the prison van.

In a video shared on his Twitter handle, Shah Mahmood Qureshi — speaking from inside the police van — said that it was a matter of great pride that he was the first to give himself up for arrest as promised earlier.

“This movement will continue until the imported government puts an end to the lawlessness in the country” and is held accountable for the last 10 months in the people’s court, he said.

PTI on its official Twitter handle shared that its party’s Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Secretary General Asad Umar, Swati, Omar Cheema and other leaders and workers are being taken to the Kot Lakhpat jail in the police van.

Earlier in the day, the police made announcements through loudspeakers that vans are ready for the workers who want to offer their arrests.

The police high-ups have directed all SHOs of the city to arrest the PTI workers in their respective areas.

According to the Punjab government spokesperson, the police had been ordered to take action against the workers under Section 144.
