PTI Ready for Third Round of Talks After Meeting Imran Khan
PTI spokesperson Sahibzada Hamid Raza cautioned that the dialogue would end if the judicial commission was not formed

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party has expressed its readiness for a third round of negotiations with the government following a meeting with its founder, Imran Khan, in a “controlled environment” at Adiala Jail on Sunday.
As reported, this meeting took place as part of the ongoing efforts to resolve a political deadlock between PTI and the ruling coalition.
The PTI negotiation committee met Imran Khan on January 12, 2025, after facing delays in securing access to him. This meeting was crucial for the committee to formulate their demands for the upcoming talks.
PTI spokesperson Sahibzada Hamid Raza announced that the opposition’s negotiation committee is prepared for discussions either on January 12 or January 13. The government has been informed of PTI’s availability for these dates.
Addressing a joint press conference alongside PTI senior leaders Omar Ayub Khan and Asad Qaiser, Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) head Sahibzada Hamid Raza, who also serves as the spokesperson for the negotiation team, said, “We are ready for the third round of talks.”
He urged the government’s negotiation team to work on forming a judicial commission before the next round of dialogue.
“No progress has been made in the negotiations so far,” he said, emphasizing the need for the government to act on their demands, particularly the establishment of the judicial commission.
Raza emphasized that the release of political prisoners and the establishment of a judicial commission were central to their demands. He stated that PTI would present these two demands in writing to the government team during the upcoming session.
Raza cautioned that the dialogue would end if the judicial commission was not formed, adding that the former ruling party would not extend the deadline for talks beyond January 31.
“If you [the government] believe PTI is responsible for the May 9 violence, then show the CCTV footage,” he asserted.
When asked about a meeting with Khan, Raza revealed it took place in a “controlled environment” and was approved late Saturday night.
Addressing another query, he explained that two team members, Hamid Khan and Salman Akram Raja, were delayed due to foggy weather conditions.
Commenting on the £190 million corruption case, Raza noted that the verdict could cause tension, but Khan had instructed them to ensure it did not interfere with the negotiation process.
Underlining the importance of actionable measures, Raza described their demands as “reasonable and practical.”
During the anticipated third round of negotiations, PTI is expected to present written demands, which may include requests for establishing a judicial commission to investigate events from May 9 to November 26 and address concerns regarding political prisoners.
Earlier in the day, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said that the government and the opposition should indulge in constructive and positive conversation while respecting each other to yield the desired outcome, according to a statement issued by the lower house of the parliament.
