The post has remained vacant since the General Elections in February, 2024.

PTI MNA Junaid Akbar Khan has been elected as the chairman of the National Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
This decision was confirmed by the National Assembly Secretariat in a press release issued on Friday.
Akbar was elected unanimously, with notable support from various members including Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Opposition Leader Omar Ayub Khan, and Senator Shibli Faraz, among others.
“Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Opposition Leader Omar Ayub Khan, Senator Shibli Faraz and others proposed the name of Junaid Akbar Khan,” the NA press release read, adding that he received support from MNAs including Riaz Fatiana, Malik Aamir Dogar, Wazhiya Qamar and Sardar Muhammad Yousaf Zaman.
In his statement following the election, Akbar expressed gratitude to the committee members for their support and emphasized his commitment to working collaboratively with them.
He stated, “I will move forward with the members of this committee”.
The PAC plays a crucial role in overseeing government expenditures and ensuring accountability within public financial management in Pakistan. The post of PAC Chairman has been vacant since the General Elections in February 2024.
On December 20, 2024, NA Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq gave the government and opposition one week to nominate candidates to fill the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman’s post.
