PTV fee increases from Rs35 to Rs100

The federal government on Saturday has increased the Pakistan Television (PTV) charges from Rs35 to Rs100.

The state-owned TV fee is collected by charging it to consumers’ electricity bills every month. The citizens have been paying the charges for years whether they watch the channel or not.

The increased fee means that government with an estimated Rs21 billion will be collected from consumers annually. This will be significantly more than the previous collections, which amounted to Rs.7.5 billion per year.

The government, separately, earns revenue from private advertisements run on PTV.

It is worth mentioning here that the government has not yet paid Rs6bn due to media houses for advertisements.
