Punjab Govt Announces Holiday in All Public and Private Educational Institutions on Oct 18
The administration also enforced Section 144 across the province

The Punjab government of Pakistan has announced a holiday for all public and private educational institutions on Friday, October 18.
Additionally, the Punjab government has imposed Section 144 across the province for two days.
According to a notification from the Punjab Home Department, Section 144 will be in effect from October 18 to October 19.
A notification issued by the government stated that all forms of protests and rallies are now banned across the province.
The decision to impose Section 144 was taken to ensure law and order, as well as the safety of lives and property, the notification added.
This decision follows a series of protests that have erupted across Punjab after allegations of the rape of a college student in Lahore. The incident, which went viral on social media, has led to widespread demonstrations by students in several cities over the past few days.
Earlier today, police detained over 250 individuals involved in violent student protests in Rawalpindi’s Dhoke Gangal area. The protesting students, angered by the alleged rape, stormed a hostel, damaging vehicles, throwing stones, and causing destruction within the premises.
In response, law enforcement used tear gas to disperse the crowd and safely evacuated teachers and staff trapped inside the building.
On Tuesday, more than two dozen individuals, including four police officers, were injured during protests in Lahore. The escalating situation prompted Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to address the media on Wednesday, where she announced a crackdown on those spreading misinformation regarding the alleged rape.
In another related incident, 274 individuals have been charged in connection with the vandalism at the Shalamar Campus of a private college in Lahore. According to the FIR, 24 named suspects were arrested for vandalism and arson, while the remaining suspects were listed as unidentified. The report further mentioned that the attackers used petrol bombs against the police, and set ablaze the motorcycles of at least six college employees.
