Punjab imposes Section 144 in several districts including Mianwali, Bahawalpur, Faisalabad
Petition filled at LHC against Section 144 in Punjab

The government of Punjab has imposed Section 144 in several districts including Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, and Mianwali.
The ban will remain in effect for two days in Faisalabad and Bahawalpur, while Mianwali faces a week-long restriction.
According to the notification issued by the Punjab Home Department, Section 144 has been imposed on the recommendation of the district administration from Oct 1 to 7.
According to the notifications, the current law and order situation poses a “soft target” for miscreants, creating a serious security risk.
“The imposition of Section 144 is intended to prevent public unrest, ensuring the safety of lives and property in the districts. The directives prohibit all forms of public gatherings, including political assemblies, sit-ins, protests and rallies,” the notification said.
The decision to impose Section 144 was taken in response to a protest call by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on October 2 in the said districts.
On the other hand, the government’s implementation of Section 144 in Punjab, in response to PTI’s call for protests, has been contested in the Lahore High Court (LHC) as the party founded by Imran Khan prepares to demonstrate in three cities within the province.
The petition, submitted by a citizen, argues that the provincial government enforced Section 144 to suppress PTI supporters from exercising their constitutional right to protest.
The petitioner is seeking a court ruling to declare the Section 144 notification invalid.
