Punjab to go under complete lockdown - OyeYeah News
Punjab will go under a complete lockdown from May 8 to 16, the provincial government announced on Wednesday.
Owing to the growing number of coronavirus cases in the province, there will be a complete lockdown in Punjab during the Eid holidays.
As per the decision, during the holiday period, all activities will be prohibited in the province, while there will be a ban on public transport.
Furthermore, all parks and recreational spots in the city will remain closed.
Meanwhile, checkpoints will be set up at all the entry and exit points of the city, where police, Rangers, and army personnel will be deployed to monitor the situation.
The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by the provincial health minister Dr. Yasmin Rashid earlier in the day.
Health Minister Dr. Yasmin Rashid has also warned that the next 15 to 20 days are”very important” in order to bring the coronavirus situation under control.
She also stressed that the citizens should celebrate Eid ul Fitr in a simple way, owing to the third wave of the virus, people.
The health minister also urged people should follow the government’s mandated coronavirus standard operating procedure (SOPs) and prove themselves to be responsible citizens.
Punjab remains the worst-hit province by the coronavirus pandemic both in terms of cases reported as well as deaths.
Punjab on Wednesday reported 2,087 new coronavirus infections, taking the caseload to 310,616.
While 58 more deaths were reported, down from 111 yesterday, taking the total number of Punjab’s fatalities to 8,741.
