The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee convened a meeting in Islamabad on January 1, 2025, to see the crescent moon of Rajab, chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad.
Making the announcement, Maulana Azad noted that while the sky was predominantly cloudy across most of Pakistan, there were clear areas where the moon was visible.
He officially announced that the crescent moon of Rajab had been sighted, marking the commencement of the month on January 2, 2025.
Following the announcement, the Federal Ministry of Religious Affairs has also issued a notification in this regard.
The Muslims observe Shab-e-Mairaj every year on the 27th of the lunar month of Rajab-ul-Murajab.
Muslims worldwide, including those in Pakistan, will observe Shab-e-Meraj with deep religious devotion and enthusiasm.
Shab-e-Miraj, also known as the Night of Ascension, is a significant event in Islamic tradition, commemorating the miraculous night journey of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
The holy Prophet (PBUH) visited the highest heaven one night to meet Allah (SWT) and five daily prayers were made compulsory during that night.
Special prayers will be offered at mosques to seek Allah’s (SWT) mercy and forgiveness. Religious scholars will elaborate on the significance of the event of Meraj and its relevance to Islamic teachings.
Mosques and other venues will host special prayers and gatherings (Mahafil) to seek blessings from the Almighty. Mehfil-e-Naats will be held in various mosques following the Isha prayers.
The life and teachings of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) will be emphasized in sermons and religious programs aired on television channels.
To mark the occasion, houses, buildings, and streets will be adorned with buntings, candles, and colourful lights.
