Road Closures in Karachi for IDEAS 2024: Here is What You Need to Know!
Commuters are encouraged to stay updated on traffic advisories to minimize inconvenience during this period.
In anticipation of the International Defence Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS) 2024, which will take place from November 19 to 22 at the Karachi Expo Centre, several roads in Karachi will be closed to facilitate the event and manage traffic.
IDEAS is a significant event for Pakistan, promoting domestic arms manufacturing and attracting international vendors. The exhibition has been held annually since its inception in 2000, showcasing Pakistan’s capabilities in defence and security.
Meanwhile, the security around the Karachi Expo Centre has been beefed up in view of the upcoming IDEAS 2024 exhibition.
The Sindh government has stationed security personnel at the Expo Centre and its surrounding areas, while the police have also finalized a traffic plan and announced alternate routes for vehicles during the exhibition days.
Key Road Closures
Shahrae Faisal and Stadium Road:
Closed from 1:00 AM to 4:00 AM on November 18 for general traffic.
Traffic from the airport will not be allowed to use Karsaz or Stadium Road during this time.
Surrounding Roads (November 19-22):
Hassan Square Flyover to Stadium Road will be closed from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
Other roads linking University Road and Stadium Road to the Expo Centre will also be shut down during these hours.
Alternate Routes
Commuters are advised to use alternate routes to avoid delays:
To the airport: Shaheed-e-Millat Road, Hasan Square, Rashid Minhas Road, and Drigh Road.
Traffic from FTC and Nursery will also be redirected away from the airport area during the specified times.
Commercial vehicles are advised to use Shaheed-e-Millat Road or Teen Hatti Road.
Those approaching from NIPA and Gulshan Chowrangi should use Sehrāb Goth or Drigh Road.
Restrictions:
Heavy and commercial traffic will be barred from entering Stadium Road from Rashid Minhas Road. These vehicles will be diverted to alternative routes via NIPA, Askari 4, Shahrah-e-Faisal, or NIPA Chowrangi.
Heavy and commercial vehicles will be prohibited from using the routes from NIPA to Hassan Square and Jail Chowrangi to Hassan Square.
Further restrictions include the closure of the road from University Road (coming from NIPA) and turning left towards the Expo Centre.
Heavy and commercial vehicles, including water tankers, will be prohibited from using the Karsaz Road off Shahrah-e-Faisal.
