Sacrificial animal markets to be set up far from residential areas, Mufti Muneeb

Pakistan’s top cleric Mufti Muneebur Rehman has said that the markets of sacrificial animals will be set up far from the residential areas.

With Eid ul Azha around the corner, Mufti Muneeb stressed that there is no ban on the sacrifice of animals and also highlighted that last year’s license of collecting hides is valid for this year too.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Mufti Muneeb said that people should avoid crowding animal markets and follow SOPs to curb the spread of coronavirus.

“People should not take their families to the markets with them to purchase sacrificial animals. Instead, only one or two family members can visit the market and purchase animals”, he added.

Earlier, the local government secretary has rectified that the official notification banning cattle markets in Sindh’s capital applies only to regular markets.

A notification issued by the home department on June 2nd has said all cattle markets in Karachi would stay closed ahead of Eidul Azha.

The secretary said the vagueness in the language of this notification has led many to believe that even the markets for sacrificial animals would not be set up this year.
