Sania Mirza slams ‘cringe-worthy’ ads ahead of June 16 India-Pakistan World Cup match

Indian tennis star Sania Mirza, who is also the wife of Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik has labeled the advertisements that have been created focusing on the India-Pak clash in the ICC World Cup 2019 as ‘cringe-worthy’.

The arch-rivals Pakistan and India are set to take on each other in a highly anticipated ICC World Cup 2019 match on June 16.

Taking advantage of this high-voltage encounter, broadcasters on both sides of the border have been airing ads hitting at upcoming India Pakistan match.

Seems like Mrs. Malik could not stand any of those commercials, as she took to social media saying, “Cringeworthy ads on both sides of the border, seriously guys, you don’t need to ‘hype up’ or market the match anymore especially with rubbish! it has enough attention already! It’s only cricket for God sake, and if you think it’s any more than that then get a grip or get a life!!

Indian broadcaster Star Sports had released an advertisement of their own, signifying the superiority of the Indian national team. The ad was not received by the audiences with many claiming it to be in bad taste.

Pakistan’s Jazz TV mocked Indian wing commander Abhinandan Varthaman who was captured by Pakistan Army in an advertisement for the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup.

Sania Mirza has asked for some better sense to prevail and that the upcoming match between India and Pakistan must be seen as just another cricketing encounter between two teams.
