Saudi Arabia Mandates Meningitis Vaccine for All Hajj Pilgrims
The required vaccine, Tetravalent meningococcal (ACYW135), protects against four strains of meningitis-causing bacteria and must be administered at least 10 days before departure

In a decisive move to safeguard public health, Saudi Arabia has declared the meningitis vaccine mandatory for all Hajj pilgrims in 2025.
The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah announced that both Saudi citizens and foreign nationals must provide proof of vaccination to register for Hajj packages, ensuring no exceptions.
The required vaccine, Tetravalent meningococcal (ACYW135), protects against four strains of meningitis-causing bacteria and must be administered at least 10 days before departure.
The mandate applies to all travellers aged two and above, including those visiting for tourism or business purposes. This initiative aims to prevent the spread of infectious diseases during the annual pilgrimage, which attracts millions of people from around the world.
The Saudi Ministry of Health has also issued comprehensive health guidelines for Umrah pilgrims, emphasizing the importance of vaccinations and precautionary measures.
Pilgrims are required to carry necessary health documents, including vaccination certificates, as per guidelines from the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA).
This decision reflects Saudi Arabia’s ongoing commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants during one of the largest and most significant religious gatherings globally.
