The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has warned people not to share their account information on phone with people impersonating themselves as bank officials.
On Sunday, the central bank released a statement saying that some corrupt men are making fake calls to people and asking them to share their personal information.
The statement of SBP revealed that the fake callers are introducing themselves as the officials of the central bank and saying they are getting information from bank customers due to the emergency declared in the country due to coronavirus.
“In some instances, the fraudsters also claim that the information is required to ensure smooth functioning of their accounts in case ATM services become unavailable,” read the statement.
“State Bank of Pakistan never seeks details of account holders of any bank and all such calls made on its behalf are a hoax and with fraudulent intentions,” the statement further said.
The SBP added that “public is advised not to respond to any such calls and provide any information”.
The central bank also shared their helpline number 021-111-727-273 to report to report the fraudulent calls or messages.
