SC issues notice to PM Khan for attending PTI-affiliated Insaf Lawyers Forum

The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday has issued a notice to Prime Minister Imran Khan for attending a ceremony of the PTI-affiliated Insaf Lawyers Forum (ILF) which was held in Islamabad last week.

Justice Qazi Faez Isa,  while hearing a civil case against Punjab, remarked that  “The prime minister is the premier of the whole country, not of one particular group”.

He further added that the matter was related to the Constitution and fundamental rights.

The judge continued that the event was held at Islamabad’s Convention Centre and if it was held at a private hotel, then it was a different matter.

“Why is the PM misusing state resources?” the judge asked.

The apex court also issued notices to the attorney general, the Punjab advocate general and the in-charge of the convention centre where the ceremony was hosted.

Justice Isa has asked the convention centre’s in-charge to inform the court whether the expenses for the ceremony were paid for.

Furthermore, Justice Isa referred the matter to Chief Justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmed for the constitution of a bench.
