Karachi: SC orders removal of DG Sindh Building Control Authority & demolition of buildings on Railways land
The Supreme Court on Thursday has ordered the removal of Director General Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) Zafar Ahsan while hearing a case regarding the removal of encroachments in Karachi and renewing the original face of the city.
According to the news source, the court has directed Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah to oversee all the operations and appoint someone honest in his place.
While issuing the order, the court expelled SBCA Director (research) Mushtaq Soomro from the courtroom.
A three-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmed and comprising Justice Faisal Arab and Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, took up the cases at the apex court’s Karachi registry.
Furthermore, the top court has also ordered the demolition of buildings constructed on the Railways land within a week, as SC heard the case pertaining to the restoration of the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) system.
Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar, the commissioner Karachi, the secretary Railways and the advocate general Sindh were also present for the hearing.
It was last year in November when SC ordered the authorities to take steps to immediately revive the Karachi Circular Railway project and clear all encroachments on Railways land in the metropolis.
