Senator Taj Haider, PPP Senior-most Leader, Passes Away in Karachi
The family confirmed his passing, stating that Taj Haider was under treatment at a local hospital

Senator Taj Haider, the Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) senior-most leader, passed away in Karachi on Tuesday. He was 83.
According to his family, Haider was being treated at a private hospital in Karachi and passed away after a brief illness.
His wife, Naheed Wasi, shared the news of his passing in a post on Facebook, stating: “My husband, PPP Central General Secretary Senator Taj Haider, has passed away. Details regarding the funeral and burial will be shared later.”
Senator Zamir Ghumro told Dawn.com that Haider passed away after battling cancer.
According to Nazakat Ali, Haider’s staff director, the senator was admitted to Karachi’s Ziauddin Hospital’s intensive care unit for the last two days.
PPP Senator Waqar Mehdi, also confirming his passing, said that Taj Haider’s political services cannot be forgotten. He was a longtime companion and an outstanding political worker.
Haider has served as the General Secretary of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) since 2010. He has been a senator from Sindh and has held various roles in the Senate, including being a member of several standing committees.
He was elected as a Senator on the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) ticket for the term 2021 to 2027. Before that, he had also served as a Senator from 2012 to 2018.
He has been a prominent Pakistani politician, mathematician, and playwright.
Taj Haider was born on March 8, 1942, in the city of Kota, Rajasthan. After the partition of India, his family migrated to Pakistan.
Taj Haider was not only a politician but also a renowned intellectual, playwright, and columnist. He wrote columns for various newspapers and remained active in both political and literary circles.
He frequently raised his voice for constitutional rights, democracy, and the empowerment of marginalized communities.
As a versatile scholar, Haider has contributed to mathematics, political literature, and the atomic bomb program in Pakistan.
He is also known for writing plays for Pakistan Television (PTV).
