LHC Pindi bench ordered immediate release of PTI’s Vice President Shah Mahmood Qureshi
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice-Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi has been released from Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi.
The Lahore High Court (LHC) Tuesday ordered the immediate release of Pakistan’s former foreign minister and PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi.
Qureshi has been arrested multiple times following the May 9 violent riots.
Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench Justice Chaudhry Abdul Aziz conducted the hearing.
Gohar Bano and lawyer Taimur Malik appeared in the court on behalf of Qureshi, while the Assistant Advocate General appeared in the court on behalf of the government.
The public prosecutor requested time for the arguments, which the court directed to give the arguments after an hour.
The court said that if there is any evidence against Qureshi, it should be presented before the court.
When the hearing started again on the application against the detention of the former foreign minister, the court ordered to end the detention of Shah Mahmood Qureshi.
The court remarked that let alone what happened in the past, nothing like this should happen in the future.
Justice Chaudhry Abdul Aziz remarked that not everything is a joke.
The court ordered the immediate release of Shah Mehmood Qureshi and not to arrest him in any other case.
The court also ordered that no affidavit should be taken from Shah Mahmood Qureshi.
Later, the jail authorities received orders to release Shah Mahmood Qureshi, his lawyer reached Adiala Jail to demand his release, after which he is likely to be released from jail for some time.
Central Jail Superintendent Asad Waraich said that the court order has been received, and Shah Mahmood Qureshi will be released after completing the paperwork.
