SHC rejects Speaker Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani’s bail

SHC rejects Speaker Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani’s bail.

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has rejected the bail pleas of eight accused, including Speaker Provincial Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani, in the assets beyond means case on Wednesday.

The decision was reserved by a special bench of the Sindh High Court comprising Justice Nadeem Akhtar and Justice Iqbal Kalhoro.

The SHC on Wednesday heard a petition filed by the family members of Speaker Sindh Assembly Siraj Durrani seeking bails in assets beyond means case.

The PPP leader has been accused of accumulating more than Rs1 billion which does not justify his means of income.

The court rejected the bail plea of Siraj Durrani but accepted the bails of his other family members including Gulzar Ahmad.

To be recalled, in the case of assets in excess of income, 18 accused including Speaker Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani, his wife, and son are involved, out of which the application of eight accused was rejected.

The reference of making assets in excess of income against all the accused is pending in the accountability court.

In March 2021, the Supreme Court annulled the bail decision of Agha Siraj Durrani and remanded the case to the Sindh High Court.

The court had ruled that the bail of all the accused would be maintained and other accused including Siraj Durrani would not be arrested while detailed reasons for the verdict would be released later.

The court directed the senior division benches of the Sindh High Court to hear the NAB cases and reconsider the facts and decide within two months.
