Sher Afzal Marwat expelled from PTI

Following Imran Khan's instructions, PTI formally revoked Marwat’s basic membership through an official notification

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has expelled Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Sher Afzal Marwat from the party.

The development came on Feb 12, following the instructions of PTI founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is currently incarcerated.

The decision to expel Marwat followed complaints from senior party leaders regarding his conduct at a rally in Swabi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Specifically, some leaders saw his speech at the event as inappropriate.

Prior to his expulsion, Marwat had been issued a show-cause notice by PTI’s Additional Secretary General Firdous Shamim Naqvi for violating party discipline. This notice was issued due to his comments against PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja during a live TV appearance.

PTI Additional Secretary General Firdous Shamim Naqvi issued the notification of his expulsion on Wednesday.

According to sources, PTI also plans to ask him to resign from his National Assembly seat once his membership is terminated.

Taking to social media Sher Afzal Marwat said that he would speak to the national media on Thursday (today).

“I have always remained loyal to PTI and Khan Sahib, and I continue to stand by my principles. I am deeply saddened by the recent decision, which seems influenced by individuals who have never accepted me within the party,” he said in a post on X.

“However, I refuse to engage in personal conflicts. My only allegiance has always been to the vision of Imran Khan, not to any faction within PTI.”

“I recognize the immense challenges Khan Sahib faces, including limited access to information and the presence of individuals who may not always act in the party’s best interest,” Marwat said, adding hat he would address his “position on national media tonight, and I trust that PTI workers, who have fought for justice alongside me, will continue to stand for what is right.”

He went on to add that he would never waver in his “commitment to the truth” despite the party’s decision. “If this decision is not reconsidered, I will accept it with dignity, but I urge all PTI leaders and workers—those who stood together during the most difficult times—to speak up against injustice.”
