Sikh pilgrims arrives in Pakistan ahead of Kartarpur corridor inauguration

Around 25,00 Indian Sikh pilgrims arrived in Pakistan on Tuesday at Gurdwara Nankana Sahib to mark the 550th birth anniversary of Sikhism founder Guru Nanak Dev, ahead of the opening of the landmark Kartarpur Corridor, which is scheduled to take place this week on Saturday.

The pilgrims were attended by Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) Chairperson Dr Amir Ahmad, Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (PSGPC) President Pardhan Sardar Satwant Singh, Deputy Secretary Imran Gondal, Sikh leaders, and the ETPB officials. The Sikh Yatrees were given a warm welcome at the Wagha border.

After their arrival ,they left for Gurdwara Janamasthan Nanakana Sahib, the spokesperson said.

Party leader Sardar Gurmeet Singh Boos, while speaking on the occasion, said the entire Sikh community was grateful for the great gift of Kartarpur Corridor by Prime Minister Imran Khan, who had resolved the 72-year old issue in just a year.

“We came to Pakistan with a message of love and brotherhood. We pray for the development and prosperity of the sacred land of our Guru,” leader of the Delhi Gurdwara Management Committee said.

The Evacuee Trust Property Board chairperson said the Sikh pilgrims would be given special facilities — including accommodation, journey, medical, and foolproof security during their stay in Pakistan.

The ETPV chairperson said that the great things are done with the accordance with the PM’s vision.

The premier is set to inaugurate the Kartarpur Corridor on November 9.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Gurdwara Janamasthan Nankana Sahib was built at the site where the Guru Nanak Dev was born. The year 2019 marks the 550th birth anniversary year of the Sikhism founder.
