Sindh Cabinet Approves Covid-19 Relief Ordinance

The Sindh cabinet has approved the Covid-19 Emergency Relief Ordinance 2020, reported government spokesperson Murtaza Wahab.

The ordinance has been sent to the governor Sindh Imran Ismail for approval.

The new ordinance is meant to “address the extraordinary situation we are living in”, says Murtaza Wahab.

“It guarantees employees don’t get fired & get their salaries; utility bills to a certain extent have been exempted; schools have been directed to give 20 percent discount due to lesser overheads”, tweeted Murtaza Wahab.

Under the COVID-19 relief ordinance, employers in the private sector will not be able to sack or terminate their employees.

Furthermore, it has been mandatory that employers in the private sector will not be able to sack or terminate their employees.

It will also be mandatory for power companies to reduce electricity bills in stages.

Adding more to it, tenants living in commercial and residential plots will be given relief for the time being as the ordinance prevents eviction.
