Sindh govt bans 143 ulema and zakireen for 60 days

Ban has been imposed viewing the law and order situation during the month of Muharram

The Sindh government banned 143 Ulema (Scholars) and Zakireen (Precheers) for 60 days in the province, with immediate effect.

The decision was announced on Saturday as part of security measures during the month of Muharram, expected to begin on July 8.

According to a notification issued by the provincial government, Sindh Inspector General of Police Ghulam Nabi Memon recommended the restrictions on these individuals.

“On recommendation of the inspector general of police, the speeches and travel of 143 scholars and zakirs hailing from 13 districts have been banned,” the notification said.

The Home Department stated that the ban has been implemented “viewing the law and order situation” expected during the sacred Islamic month.

Meanwhile, the central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet in Quetta on Saturday evening to see the crescent of Muharram (1446 Hijri).

Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Moulana Abdul Khabir Azad will preside over the committee meeting. Simultaneously, zonal and district Ruet-e-Hilal Committees meetings will also be held at their respective headquarters.
