The government of Sindh on Thursday has announced the closure of madrasahs in the province amid surging COVID-19 cases.
The provincial government led by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, in exercise of powers under section three (one) Sindh Epidemic Diseases Act 2014 (Act VII of 2015), has ordered the immediate suspension of all educational activities in thousands of religious schools (madrasahs) scattered across the province, says the official notification
The order was communicated to the Sindh Religious Affairs Department, which will undertake whatever measures and actions necessary for immediate implementation.
Division commissioners, deputy commissioners, assistant commissioners, and other law enforcement agencies have been granted the authority to take legal action against anyone found contravening the order.
Sindh on Thursday reported 1,374 coronavirus cases and 33 more deaths.
In a statement, CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah said 12,859 tests were conducted during this period.
Meanwhile, the provincial total of COVID-29 cases has risen to 201,080 while the death toll is 3,270.
