Sindh to introduce number plates with Ajrak logos for vehicles

The Excise Department of Sindh on Saturday announced to introduce new and technologically advanced number plates with Ajrak logos for vehicles and motorbikes in the province.

According to the details, Secretary Excise Department Abdul Haleem Shaikh has ordered to manufacture 300,000 number plates for vehicles and motorbikes installed with chips and Ajrak logos by 2020, in the first phase.

The excise secretary has said that these technologically advanced number plates will be able to scan the details about the vehicle and its owner.

The secretary added that the stealing cars and motorbikes will also be caught with the help of modern technology initiative.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah and provincial cabinet are due to approve this idea.

Earlier in September, it emerged that more than 15,000 vehicles of various government sectors are being used without their original number plates.

The Excise Department has also confirmed that different departments of the Sindh government have not received original number plates for the allotted vehicles.

According to reports, under the Sindh police, 8,000 vehicles do not have their original number plates which belong to senior officers who have fancy or duplicate number plates on their vehicles.
