Social media turns blue for Sudan
People from all around the world are changing their profile pictures to blue on social media to express their solidarity with protesters in Sudan in the wake of a brutal crackdown which has killed dozens of people in the capital, Khartoum.
This blue wave started spreading across various social media platforms in the form of hashtag #BlueForSudan, in an attempt to honour the memory of one of Sudan’s crackdown victim 26-year-old engineer Mohamed Mattar, whose favourite colour was reportedly blue.
As being reported, Mohamad Mattar was fatally shot during the June 3 crackdown blamed by protesters on Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a paramilitary group led by a senior member of Sudan’s ruling Transitional Military Council.
Those who are taking part in spreading #BlueForSudan. The color blue came from a warm hearted, martyrs known as, Mohammed Hashim Mattar, my cousin who has passed away on the 3rd of June, as he was standing proud. Blue was his fav color, which now presents unity.🇸🇩

The color blue, one of our martyrs (Mattar) favorite color, started as a tribute to him, now turned to a symbol of all our martyrs, and their dreams of a better Sudan.#BlueForSudan#IAmSudaneseRevolution https://t.co/3LMxrtBOvi

No mainstream media coverage or top Twitter trend for Sudan, we need to reconsider our stance for humanity.#BlueForSudan pic.twitter.com/fBmLR3VMKi

The humanitarian side of me is triggered once more. Sometimes you can’t do anything except supporting. Your silence is lethal. Spreading awareness through social media is not a waste. Do it with pure intentions of helping rather than criticizing. #BlueForSudan pic.twitter.com/eNUvPjVwGl

As being reported, due to the media shutdown in Sudan, protesters are using social media as a last resort to bring attention to the state of affairs.
Hundreds of protesters are being reported to have been killed and abused by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces following their call for a faster transition to a democratic government in the country.
Many Pakistani and international celebrities have come forward to express solidarity with peaceful protesters in Sudan.
Why is barely any international news channel giving this proper coverage? It’s heartbreaking to read about what’s happening in #Sudan and so is the indifference towards it. https://t.co/YxSRISaIIf
