Special PCB committee to review Pakistan team performance in World Cup 2019

A four-member special committee, which is now being led Wasim Akram, has been assigned the task to conduct a thorough analysis of the Pakistan cricket team’s performance in the World Cup 2019.

The committee also comprises of former Test cricketer Mohsin Hassan Khan, former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq, and former cricketer and head of the women’s selection committee Urooj Mumtaz. The committee will submit its recommendations to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) following its ‘post-mortem examination’.

According to a press release from the PCB, the Board had a discussion on the Pakistan cricket team’s recent performance across all formats.

“The members agreed the team’s performance in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019 to date has been below expectation, but expressed faith, support and confidence in the side, and hoped they will utilize all their talent and potential in the remaining matches to bounce back strongly and finish on a high,” the Board said in a press release following the meeting.

Board has also added that it would carry out “a robust review and analysis of the side’s and the team support personnel’s performances in the past three years” following the World Cup and that it would submit the recommendations to the Chairman and the BoG for their consideration.

The special committee was constituted by PCB chairman Ehsan Mani in October last year to supervise all cricketing matters in the country.

This four-member team has been tasked now to review and analyze the Pakistan Men’s team below par performance in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 in England.

The development took place after the Board’s chiefs discussed the team’s performance during the 54th PCB’ Board of Governors meeting in Lahore on Wednesday, presided over by PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani.

At first former test player, Mohsin Hassan Khan was to chair the special committee, who later stepped down. Now board’s managing Director, Wasim Khan, would act as the Chair of the PCB Cricket Committee.

In a press statement on Thursday, the PCB said Mohsin Khan expressed his willingness to be released from his current position during a recent meeting with PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani, who accepted his request.

“It is always difficult to let go of someone of Mohsin’s stature and caliber, but we respect his decision. I am thankful to Mohsin for his contributions and wish him well in his future endeavors,” PCB chairman Ehsan Mani was quoted as saying.

Mohsin Khan said he was thankful to PCB and the chairman for the opportunity to chair the committee. “My services are always available for Pakistan cricket at a suitable position in view of my past record,” he said.
