Suparco Predicts Muharram 1447 Hijri Moon Sighting on June 26
Suparco has indicated that Youm-e-Ashura will likely fall on July 6, 2025, in Pakistan.

The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) has forecast that the crescent moon for Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar, is likely to be sighted on the evening of June 26, 2025.
This sighting will mark the beginning of Muharram 1447 Hijri and the Islamic New Year on June 27, 2025.
Suparco officials stated that the new moon is expected to be born on June 25 at 3:32 PM Pakistan Standard Time. By sunset on June 26, the moon will be approximately 28 hours and 15 minutes old, making it highly visible under clear weather conditions across most parts of Pakistan.
Coastal areas will have an especially favourable viewing window, with a 75-minute gap between sunset and moonset, increasing the likelihood of a clear sighting.
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is scheduled to convene on the evening of June 26 to confirm the moon sighting officially. Zonal Ruet-e-Hilal Committees will also meet in major cities such as Karachi, Lahore, and Quetta to validate the crescent’s visibility.
The month of Muharram holds deep religious significance for Muslims worldwide, particularly the 10th day, Youm-e-Ashura, which commemorates the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (RA).
Suparco has indicated that Youm-e-Ashura will likely fall on July 6, 2025, in Pakistan.
In preparation for Muharram observances, law enforcement agencies have made stringent security arrangements across the country, especially for Ashura processions and gatherings. Mobile phone services may be suspended along procession routes and at Imambargahs to maintain security.
The Muharram moon sighting is a pivotal event, marking both the start of a new lunar year and a period of profound spiritual reflection for the Muslim community.
