Supreme Court of Pakistan has ruled in favour of the PTI-backed Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) in the reserved seats case.
A 13-member bench of the top court headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa announced the verdict on Friday that was reserved earlier.
The SC full bench included Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Shahid Waheed, Justice Ayesha Malik, Justice Irfan Sadaat, Justice Athar Minallah, Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi, and others.
Justice Mansoor Ali Shah announced the 8-5 majority verdict, nullifying the Peshawar High Court’s (PHC) order wherein it had upheld the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision denying the reserved seats to the SIC.
“PTI was and is a political party, which secured general seats in the national and provincial assemblies in the general elections of 2024,” read the verdict.
The SC verdict added that the withdrawal of an election symbol cannot disqualify a political party from participating in the elections.
