Tableeghi Jamaat’s Islamabad ijtema has been postponed amid COVID-19 surging cases.

Tableeghi Jamaat’s management announced the decision on Tuesday.

The annual ijtema (congregation) was scheduled to be held in the federal capital from April 1-4.

The Minister for Interior Sheikh Rasheed also shared the update on Twitter.

The minister claimed that he had requested the religious organization to postpone the event owing to a surge in COVID-19 cases.

“I am very grateful to the Management of  Tableeghi Jamaat that ON MY REQUEST, they have postponed their annual ‘IJTEMA’ in Islamabad, scheduled from 1st to 4th April. The request was made because of the increasing cases of COVID-19 in the City,” he tweeted.

The federal capital remains the worst hit by the third wave of coronavirus. On Tuesday Islamabad reported 754 new COVID-19 positive cases and 2 deaths.

Furthermore, in Islamabad, the hospital beds for coronavirus patients at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) are on the decline, according to a report on Geo TV, as cases of infection surge across the country.

Hospital authorities confirmed arrangements are being made to acquire 40 additional beds for coronavirus patients. With the addition of the new beds, the total count of beds for coronavirus patients in the hospital will amount to 200.

As being reported, 139 coronavirus patients are undergoing treatment at PIMS. Out of the 21 ventilators in the hospital, 16 are in use, leaving only five available.

A day earlier, a newborn baby that had contracted COVID-19 from its mother was admitted to PIMS.
