Taj Mahal in danger! Hindu zealots eye declaring UNESCO heritage site as originally a Hindu temple

Indian Supreme Court dismisses plea seeking ‘real history’ of Taj Mahal

Taj Mahal in danger as Hindu zealots eye declaring UNESCO heritage site as originally a Hindu temple!

Hindu zealots continue to make false claims about the historic sites putting the India’s Muslim heritage under threat. One of the prime example is Babri mosque’s demolition 30 years ago.

As reported, a recent petition filed by a leader of Narendra Modi’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) sought a fact-finding committee to “study the real history” of the the 17th century mausoleum Taj Mahal, aiming to declare the UNESCO heritage site Taj Mahal as originally a Hindu temple.

As reproted, head of the BJP’s media relations in Ayodhya, north India, Rajneesh Singh, in his petition, claimed that there was no “scientific evidence” to prove that the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan built the Taj Mahal.

The BJP leaders over the years have been repeating and amplifying unhistorical claims that the Taj Mahal is in fact a Hindu temple, which was built much before the reign of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan.

Though the attempt was foiled by the Indian court!

In the latest development, the Indian Supreme Court on Dec 5, refused to entertain a plea seeking to issue direction to authorities concerned “to remove wrong historical facts related to construction of Taj Mahal by Shah Jahan” from history books and text books referred to in schools, colleges, universities.

“The PILs are not meant for fishing enquiry. We are not here to reopen history. Let history continue. The writ petition is dismissed as withdrawn. The petitioner is granted liberty to make representation to the ASI. We have not expressed any merits on the same,” the bench said,as per the Indian media report.

The petitioner claimed that the present structure of the so-called Taj Mahal mausoleum is nothing but a modification, renovation and refurbishment of the Mansion of Raj Man Singh.

This is reported to be the second such petition that Indian SC has heard in the last 2 months.
